Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors have not had the kind of 2025-26 NBA season that they were hoping to have thus far.
At the beginning of the year, the Warriors appeared to have the talent to be a legitimate NBA Finals contender. However, the reality of the season has brought a lot of questions about whether or not the team can actually reach that level.
As of right now following the team’s 123-115 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night, Golden State holds a 25-21 record. That places them No. 3 in the Pacific Division standings.
With the NBA trade deadline coming up quickly on February 5, rumors have started swirling around the Warriors. Jonathan Kuminga, who suffered an injury against the Mavericks, is widely expected to be moved before the deadline.
After seeing star forward Jimmy Butler go down with a season-ending torn ACL, Golden State could look to shake some things up.
Stephen Curry Comments on the Golden State Warriors’ Trade Deadline Plans
Following the loss to Dallas, Curry was asked about the trade deadline. He didn’t want to talk about what the team could choose to do.
“I’m not talking about that right now,” Curry said. “I don’t need (to give) any existential thoughts right now.”
Curry is fully focused on winning games, which is something the Warriors have struggled to do at times this season. That being said, Golden State needs to do everything in its power to bring in more talent to help him accomplish that goal.
So far this season, Curry has put up huge numbers for the Warriors. He has played in 35 games, averaging 27.1 points per game to go along with 5.1 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.1 steals. He has shot 46.8 percent from the floor and knocked down 38.7 percent of his three-point attempts.
His numbers have gone up from last season. Curry is doing everything he can to keep Golden State afloat, but he simply hasn’t received a ton of help.
What Could the Warriors Do at the Trade Deadline?
Finding a “replacement” for Butler will be a top priority for the Warriors. Moving on from Kuminga will be another priority, although those two things could come together.
Andrew Wiggins has been a name mentioned as a potential target for Golden State. That report came from Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.
Both DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine have also been brought up as potential targets. Lauri Markkanen has again been talked about as an option for the Warriors as well.
There are plenty of directions that Golden State could choose to go. However, the price tag for some of the players mentioned as possible targets might be too high for the Warriors to get serious in trade discussions.
Expect to hear more rumors about Golden State in the coming days. Help is needed, but general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. isn’t going to overspend to bring in short-term solutions.
Curry needs help and the Warriors will look to see if there’s something they can do. Fans should buckle up for what should be a very busy period leading up to February 5.
