Liverpool are keeping their eyes peeled in the winter market, as the January transfer window nears the final few days before it slams shut once again. For the Reds, there are several areas they could look to strengthen, as they adjust their aims for the second half of the season.

As it stands, Arne Slot's side are in the top-four places, which will be their new goal for the end of the season, so they can qualify for the Champions League once again. The Liverpool boss recently admitted as much, conceding the Premier League title race with full focus on European qualification.

That comes as a disappointing development, considering last season's title-winning campaign and the following £450m spend in the transfer market. However, a drop in form and a clear exposure of problems on the side have driven the need to evolve once again.

The defence is the main area of focus for Liverpool during the January transfer window, which could drag into the summer months, if necessary. Beyond that, there are questions over their midfield, and the possibility of bolstering the forward ranks for the future as well.

While plenty of targets are appearing as possible options for the Merseyside outfit, that needs to be balanced with some potential exits as well. So, with that said, here's a look at the latest Liverpool transfer news and rumours ahead of another busy day of action.

Micky van de Ven transfer price tag

Tottenham have placed a £100m price tag on Micky van de Ven this summer, amid links with a potential move to Liverpool. That's according to talkSPORT, which claims that the north London team will be seeking a world-record fee for a defender, if he is to leave the club.

The report suggests that van de Ven is pushing to leave Spurs in the coming summer, though he's under contract with the Lilywhites until 2029. Liverpool have been linked with a transfer for the centre-back - who has impressed with his defensive ability and raw pace since his move to the Premier League.

There are doubts that the club will be able to spend heavily yet again in the summer, however, following a £450m transfer spend last year. Centre-back is a clear priority, however, with a lack of options currently available to Slot in such a key position.

Ibrahima Konate has just a few months remaining on his deal, as he continues to edge towards a possible exit, while Virgil van Dijk is nearing the end of his career. Marc Guehi was a previous transfer target, going close to a move in the summer, but has since joined rivals Manchester City.

Mohamed Salah transfer interest

Saudi Arabian clubs continue to show strong interest in a potential move for Mohamed Salah, with the possibility of making a move in the summer. The Telegraph reports that inquiries have been made over the Egyptian international joining in the January transfer window, but have so far received no encouragement to firm up that interest.

Salah has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League for some time now, but rumours surrounding an exit from Anfield surfaced again late last year. It came as the winger suggested he had been "thrown under the bus" by the club, after an apparent falling out and a string of games out of the team.

With AFCON taking place during December and January, Salah had also suggested that a game against Brighton last month may have been his last for Liverpool. He has since returned to the side from his time away with Egypt, and looks set to be part of the squad for the remainder of the season.
