Liverpool are monitoring developments closely during the winter transfer market, with the January window set to close in the coming days. For the Reds, there are multiple positions they might seek to reinforce as they recalibrate their objectives for the remainder of the campaign.

Currently, Arne Slot's squad occupy a top-four berth, which has now become their target for the season's conclusion, ensuring Champions League football returns to Anfield. Liverpool's head coach has recently acknowledged the shift, too, effectively conceding the Premier League title race while prioritising European qualification.

This represents a hiccup, particularly following last term's title success and the subsequent £450m investment in the transfer market. Nevertheless, a dip in results and evident weaknesses within the squad have highlighted the necessity for further evolution.

The backline stands as a primary concern for Liverpool throughout the January transfer window, though activity could extend into the summer period if required.

Additionally, there are uncertainties surrounding the midfield options, plus the prospect of strengthening up the attacking contingent for future campaigns.

While numerous potential signings are emerging as viable candidates for the Merseyside club, that also must be weighed up against possible departures, too.

With that in mind, here's our round-up of the latest Liverpool transfer news and rumours;

Micky van de Ven transfer latest

Tottenham have slapped a £100m valuation on Micky van de Ven this summer, amid speculation linking him with a potential switch to Liverpool, it has been claimed.

According to talkSPORT, the north London outfit would be demanding a world-record fee for a defender should he depart the club.

The report indicates that van de Ven is keen to leave Spurs in the upcoming summer window, despite being tied to the Lilywhites until 2029.

Liverpool have been mentioned as potential suitors for the centre-back, who has caught the eye with his defensive prowess and blistering pace since arriving in the Premier League.

Questions remain over whether the club will be able to splash out significantly once more in the summer, though, after the £450m transfer outlay last year. Central defence is clearly a pressing concern, with Slot currently short of options in such a crucial area.

Ibrahima Konate has only a handful of months left on his contract - as he inches closer to a potential departure - while Virgil van Dijk is approaching the twilight of his career.

Marc Guehi was a former transfer target who came close to joining in the summer, but has since signed for rivals Manchester City.

Mohamed Salah interest emerges

Saudi Arabian clubs remain keen on securing Mohamed Salah's services, with a potential summer transfer on the cards.

The Telegraph reveals that "enquiries were made" about the Egyptian forward joining during the January window, though these approaches have yet to receive any positive response.

Speculation linking Salah with a switch to the Saudi Pro League has persisted for quite some time, but talk of a departure from Anfield intensified towards the end of last year.

This followed the forward's suggestion that he had been "thrown under the bus" by the Reds - amid reports of a disagreement and a spell on the side-lines.

With the Africa Cup of Nations taking place throughout December and January, Salah had also hinted that last month's fixture against Brighton might have been his final appearance for Liverpool.

However, he has since re-joined the squad following his international commitments with Egypt - and he appears set to remain part of the team for the rest of the campaign.

Adam Wharton to Liverpool chance

Liverpool are among the top clubs expressing strong interest in Adam Wharton, ahead of a proposed summer departure from Crystal Palace, according to The Daily Mail.

The England international has attracted attention from the likes of Spanish giants Real Madrid and Manchester United, with increasing speculation that he could be the next talent to leave Selhurst Park.

The report suggests Liverpool would be prepared to table an £80m bid for Wharton, should the chance arise to bolster their midfield options.
