With the January signings of Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi complete, the Manchester City rebuild is seemingly almost complete. Outside of injuries and poor form that have set Pep Guardiola’s side back recently, there only seem to be two areas of the City squad that need fine-tuning or improving. Those areas appear to be the right-back position and in midfield.
Two new reports suggest that City are eager to sign midfielder Elliott Anderson from Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United’s versatile full-back Tino Livramento next summer. It seems that City have identified their top summer transfer targets to attempt to complete the rebuild of Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Elliot Anderson and Tino Livramento are looking large as summer transfer targets for Manchester City.
Firstly, Mark Brus has reported for CaughtOffside that Manchester City are aiming to get in early to make their move to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest. Furthermore, Brus reports that City has already made initial contact with Elliot Anderson’s entourage. The England international is keen to move to the Etihad next summer. Lastly, Brus adds that Manchester United, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich have an interest in signing Elliot Anderson next summer.
Secondly, a report from Ciaran Morrison for Football Insider indicates that Tino Livramento has “his heart set on a summer move to Manchester City.” Morrison has relayed quotes from former Everton CEO Keith Wyness that Livramento seems eager to join City next summer. Wyness explained: “*Look, I know Newcastle would want to keep him, but I know that the player is definitely set on going to City, and I do expect that to happen, probably in the summer.*”
Elliot Anderson and Tino Livramento would be quality additions to the City squad.
It would appear that another midfielder and a right-back are the final two pieces for Manchester City to sign to complete their squad rebuild. Barring departures, it would seem that Pep Guardiola’s squad now has everything needed. Signing another midfielder and a quality right-back would likely complete the picture.
Manchester City’s need to sign Elliot Anderson has already been covered extensively. With doubts surrounding the futures of Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic, Anderson would be the ideal player to slot into the City midfield. His energy, work rate, tenacity, and quality in possession seem ideally suited to playing at City. It would seem that Hugo Viana is already hard at work on potentially signing Elliot Anderson next summer.
Manchester City have long been admirers of Tino Livramento. The England international is an exceptional defender, and his versatility to play in either full-back position, coupled with his defensive ability and ball-playing prowess, make him an ideal candidate to slot in at right-back in Pep Guardiola’s squad. However, the constant injury issues that plague Tino Livramento are a cause for concern. Whether or not Manchester City would move for a player who will cost a sizable transfer fee with such injury issues remains to be seen. On paper, it is easy to see why City would want to sign Livramento, although it is a move that comes with a caveat.
There is little doubt at this stage that Manchester City will make a move next summer to sign Elliot Anderson. He is seemingly Manchester City’s top summer transfer target. Tino Livramento could be City’s second summer target if they believe that his constant injury issues aren’t a cause for concern. The pair of England internationals could be the only two players City move for in the summer, as signing both would almost complete the rebuild City have embarked upon over the last twelve months.
