Washington Wizards president Michael Winger believes that letting go of Deni Avdija in 2024 was not a mistake, despite the forward blossoming into one of the NBA's top players.
Washington Wizards president Michael Winger responded to a question about whether he thinks trading Deni Avdija to the Portland Trail Blazers was a mistake.

Winger maintained that the move was not an error, despite Avdija blossoming into one of the top forwards in the league, explaining that the trade allowed the Wizards to initiate a roster reset.
"No, it was not a mistake," Winger stated at a press conference on Thursday. "We’re all very happy for Deni."
"We saw Deni as a very high-level ascending player... but no, we did it for the reasons we said then which was to take us back a couple of years so we could reset the roster and so that everybody was on the same age curve and Deni’s ahead of that," he added.
This season, the 25-year-old forward is playing at an All-Star level, averaging 26 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game for the Blazers, helping his team reach ninth place in the Western Conference with a 23-22 record.
