Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool future is a big talking point currently and now a significant update has dropped about where he could end up retiring.
The 33-year-old has experienced a disappointing season by his incredible standards, with his form a far cry from what it has been in the past.
Not only that, but Salah was openly critical of Arne Slot before Christmas, leading to him being dropped for a spell of games, but he is now back in the fold after the Africa Cup of Nations.
It looks as though the Liverpool legend will at least be staying at Anfield until the summer, but a new update from iNews [via Caught Offside] claims that he likely won’t be ending his career there:
“The January conversation only came about after what Salah said to the media [about being ‘not wanted’]. Now we know it is in his head that leaving Liverpool is a realistic option, and retiring there isn’t likely, we can prepare a proper approach in the summer. Salah is a name that changes the appeal of the league to a large number of players.”
A Salah exit from Liverpool this summer most likely?
This promises to be a fascinating few months for Salah, with his performances and general demeanour likely to be under the spotlight in terms of gauging his happiness.
It does feel as though a summer exit could be on the cards, allowing Liverpool to get a fee for him, even though Slot praised him earlier this week, saying:
“It says a lot about how big a professional he is that he can be away for more than a month with a different team and be so fit to play 90 for us after one day’s training
“He was so close to a goal, it would usually be a goal from him, but it didn’t harm us because we scored three. I saw a lot of good individual performances tonight but I would like to single out Joe Gomez. He has suffered a lot with injuries in the last few years and I haven’t picked him sometimes when he has been fit. Tonight he was outstanding and so important to us winning 3-0.”
Seeing Salah at least see out his contract until next year would be no bad thing, but it is extremely difficult to see him retiring in a Liverpool shirt at this point.
