Newcastle United injuries: Eddie Howe provided an injury update on Bruno Guimaraes ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match against Aston Villa.
The Brazilian came off at the end of the first half with the score at 2-0 following goals from Yoane Wissa and Anthony Gordon before Harvey Barnes added a third in the second half.
After the match, Howe said: “Yeah, a little bit sore, it's an ankle problem, a little bit of swelling in his ankle, having just seen him.
“We hope it's not serious, difficult to know.I think Bruno's the type of player that never wants to come off, he always wants to play, so the fact he has come off is a worry for us.
“We'll do everything we can to get him fit as quickly as possible.”
Guimaraes also took to social media to issue a brief reaction to his injury.
On Instagram, he wrote: “Mixed feelings! Happy with the team’s great performance and the three points. I hope the injury isn’t too serious and that I can be back on the pitch doing what I love most as soon as possible. Howay the lads.”

Eddie Howe provides Bruno Guimaraes injury update
Newcastle host Aston Villa at St James’ Park on Sunday (2pm kick-off), hoping to get back to winning ways after a frustrating 0-0 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out in the Premier League.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Howe provided a small update on Guimaraes’ fitness.
“Yeah, I think with Bruno, we hope it's not serious,” Howe said. “The extent of the injury is still unknown, but he was reasonably positive after the game.
“Speaking to him again, he's the guy that will never rule anything out, so we're going to give him every chance for this weekend. Let's wait and see.”
After Aston Villa, Newcastle have trips to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and Liverpool away next Saturday in the Premier League.
The worrying Bruno Guimaraes stat Newcastle may have to end in the Premier League
But Newcastle not won any of the 10 Premier League matches Guimaraes hasn’t started since his first start for the club in 2022. The only game Guimaraes has missed and Newcastle have won, was the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Arsenal last January where they secured a 2-0 victory en route to claiming the trophy.
“I wondered how long it would be before that one came up,” Howe laughed. “In terms of working out how to play without him, I think he is just a very, very good player. A very, very talented footballer. A very creative footballer.
“Regardless of where he plays, he has the ability to change games. Of course, if we're without him in any game, you have to come up with a solution.
“You have to come up with an alternative way of either selecting your team or a way of playing. We're trying to figure out all avenues if he isn't available, but we hope he can make it.”
