Steph Curry on trade deadline and Kuminga's role after Jimmy Butler's injury

Stephen Curry believes there’s still plenty of time before the trade deadline and says there's no need for "existential thoughts" about the team's direction following Jimmy Butler’s injury. He also shared his thoughts on Jonathan Kuminga, expressing confidence that Kuminga can continue to be a valuable contributor by doing the things he was doing for the team before his absence.

Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry didn't want to discuss the team's direction following Jimmy Butler's season-ending injury and a second-straight loss on Thursday.

After a 115-123 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday, Curry said there was no need for any existential thoughts at the moment, noting:

"I'm not talking about that right now," Curry said postgame. "We're just trying to win a game on the road. There's a lot of time until February 6, a lot of time before the playoffs. I don't need to give any existential thoughts right now."

He was also asked about Jonathan Kuminga's return to the lineup following Butler's injury.

Kuminga looked solid against Dallas, scoring 10 points in just 9 minutes before unfortunately leaving the game due to injury. When discussing what Kuminga can still contribute amid trade rumors, Curry praised his readiness and professionalism despite his recent absence from the rotation.

"Exactly what he did," Curry said regarding Kuminga's contributions.

"All the minutes he was out there before he got hurt tonight, he just picked and chose his spots when he could attack. He made great 0.5 basketball plays, swinging the ball to the open man. If he had a one-on-one situation with space, he did what he does best—score the basketball."

"It's a tribute to him for staying ready. I know it's been a while since he played, but the work he's been putting in, and understanding how drastically things can change from one game to the next, he looked good, looked comfortable. Hopefully he's not out too long and can pick up right where he left off."
