It has been a bad week for Manchester City. Consecutive defeats to Manchester United and Bodø/Glimt have capped off a poor January for Pep Guardiola’s side. The City performances in their past two matches have been alarming. If it weren’t for the offside flag, City could be entering tomorrow’s match against Wolves at the Etihad off the back of 5-nil and 5-1 defeats. If that transpired, there would be an entirely different discussion occurring. Given the poor run of results throughout January, Manchester City simply must pick up three points against Wolves tomorrow. There is no other alternative for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Manchester City to get back to winning ways by any means necessary.
City needs to win tomorrow against Wolves for their own confidence and to keep in touch with Premier League leaders Arsenal. Taking the title race out of the picture, Pep Guardiola’s side needs to return to winning ways to begin to build confidence after their past two performances. Manchester City has looked listless and devoid of ideas against Manchester United and Bodø/Glimt. The combination of fatigue and important players being injured and out of form has hampered City’s play. The only way to remedy Manchester City’s recent issues is to pick up three points tomorrow. It’s basically non-negotiable that City win at the Etihad.
How Manchester City pick up a much-needed victory is irrelevant. Ideally, it would come after a free-flowing and dominant performance. But if Pep Guardiola’s side has to grind out a win, so be it. All that matters tomorrow is that City pick up three points, nothing more.
Wolves have struggled throughout this season but they won’t roll over for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Wolverhampton Wanderers sit bottom of the Premier League with a measly total of eight points after twenty-two matches. This season has been a battle for Rob Edwards’ side. But they are unbeaten in their past four Premier League matches. So they will not roll over for City tomorrow at the Etihad Stadium. Wolves will harbor dreams of miraculously avoiding relegation this season, so it is to be expected that they will be up for the fight. Wolves will also have taken note of Manchester City’s past two performances and will be eager to cause an upset tomorrow.
Nothing comes easy in the Premier League, especially for teams that aren’t in form. Not even matches against the bottom-placed side in the table. Manchester City simply have to pick up three points tomorrow. There is no alternative. They will likely have to fight and scrap through tomorrow’s match; it is unlikely that Pep Guardiola’s side will somehow just click into gear. But whatever happens tomorrow, City must win so they can begin to come out of what has been two poor performances and a trying month for Pep Guardiola’s side.
