Liverpool in talks to sell Andy Robertson to Tottenham

Liverpool are in talks with Tottenham over a possible deal for Andy Robertson this month, with the Scot exploring his options in the final year of his contract.

Robertson could leave Liverpool before the end of the January transfer window after the club received an approach from Tottenham.

This Is Anfield understands the club have entered talks after the left-back made clear his desire to resolve his future with less than six months remaining on his current deal.

Liverpool’s appreciation for Robertson’s service and his pursuit of regular starts has informed their stance on the situation, though no agreement has been reached at this stage.

Any departure would only be sanctioned if it was in the best interests of both player and club, particularly as the 31-year-old has remained an important part of Arne Slot‘s squad this season.

If Robertson were to leave earlier than anticipated a solution will be in place for Liverpool’s backup left-back role.

That comes with suggestions AS Roma could cut short their loan for Kostas Tsimikas, who has made 16 appearances for the Serie A side so far but has only started eight of those.

Tsimikas is also subject of interest from Nottingham Forest, with the terms of Liverpool’s agreement with Roma allowing a clean break if sanctioned by all parties.

Speaking on his contract situation earlier this month, Robertson told reporters: “Would I like to stay? Yes, but it’s a difficult question to ask.

“I’ve got five months left and we need to see the option to stay or if there’s options to go and things like that.

“I’ll sit down with my family and decide. After a stressful summer, I’m just trying to enjoy being a part of it, and being a Liverpool player.

“I wanted to qualify for the World Cup and, thankfully, we’ve managed to do that. I need to see what myself and my family wants moving forward.”

Slot praised the No. 26’s maturity in response, saying: “I have to give him a big compliment about the things he said.

“Very mature and I could understand everything he was saying.

“I think every player should have the same feeling about his current position, and that is that he’s not starting every game.

“But I’m really happy that he also says that he finds joy in the position he’s in and that he also understands how important he’s been to this club for all these years and he definitely still also is in the position he’s in now.”
