Liverpool legend Andy Robertson could be sent for a shock January transfer window switch to Tottenham Hotspur
Liverpool have entered preliminary talks with Tottenham Hotspur over the potential sale of Andy Robertson during this month's transfer window. The Reds have received an official approach from Spurs regarding the 31-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
Robertson, who has been at Anfield since an initial £8million arrival from Hull City in 2017, recently revealed discussions have been ongoing with Liverpool over the possibility of a new deal although there has been no resolution.
And now Tottenham have launched a surprise attempt to sign the Scotland international and bolster the ranks of Thomas Frank's squad.
The ECHO understands that while no decision has yet been taken over the sale of the player, Liverpool have entered negotiations with Tottenham mindful of the fact Robertson at present is due to leave for nothing in the summer.
Robertson has been a regular for the majority of his Reds career but has lost his place this season with 22-year-old summer signing Milos Kerkez having become the first-choice left-back under Arne Slot since a £40m move from Bournemouth.
Liverpool, though, are unlikely to allow Robertson to leave if it leaves them short of cover in the position.
There is an option of recalling Kostas Tsimikas from his loan spell at Roma, with the Greece international having struggled for minutes at the Serie A outfit.
Robertson, who was on the bench for the Champions League win at Marseille in midweek, has started only 11 games for Liverpool this campaign. He has made a total of 363 appearances for the Reds.
