Report: Chelsea have identified a Thiago Silva replacement that would cost them nothing

Thiago Silva is long gone at Chelsea, but they’re yet to fully replace the defender.

One of Chelsea‘s biggest issues right now comes at the heart of the defence, with a lack of experience and leadership when things get tough.

An injury to Tosin Adarabioyo has increased the need for a centre-back, with Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Trevoh Chalobah the only options.

Jeremy Jacquet has been identified as the defender they want to sign this month, but negotiations have been complicated due to the hefty fee and Rennes being difficult.

But it seems as if Chelsea have their eyes on experience for the summer.

Chelsea open to a deal for Harry Maguire

Thiago Silva’s time at Chelsea was defined by an incredible level of consistency that defied his age, most notably highlighted by his crucial role in the 2021 UEFA Champions League campaign.

After that European success, he helped the club secure the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup, where his individual performances earned him the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player.

Since then, Chelsea have never replaced him.

But they do have a potential deal lined up for the summer, as according to Caught Offside, the Blues are open to a deal for Manchester United’s Harry Maguire.

Chelsea sees Harry Maguire as their new Thiago Silva

The report states.

“Chelsea are surprisingly open to this deal – they know they’re missing an experienced Thiago Silva-like figure at the back. It’s not necessarily the most likely outcome, but don’t rule it out.”

He will be available on a free transfer in the summer, which does make the deal more attractive.

It could be worth a gamble from Chelsea. Especially with Maguire being a previous target, as they tried to sign him before Wesley Fofana.
