Man City are interested in signing Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, according to Bild reporter Christian Falk.
Chelsea have been locked in negotiations to sign the 20-year-old, who has been compared to Arsenal’s William Saliba by some in the new media.
Falk was commenting on Marc Guehi’s decision to sign for City instead of Bayern Munich when he suggested a similar thing could happen with Jacquet:

“Chelsea and Manchester City are knocking on the Rennes defender’s door. If they offer €50m and Bayern say, ‘No, this is too much, because we have to sell first,’ then they will also lose the poker match for this player!”
Signing Jacquet seems unlikely
After recruiting Guehi, manager Pep Guardiola has a host of centre-back options to choose from, even with the likes of Josko Gvardiol, Ruben Dias and John Stones on the treatment table.
Nathan Ake, Abdulkodir Khusanov, Max Alleyne and now Guehi are available for selection, so adding another defender to the ranks this month like Jacquet doesn’t appear to be on the cards.
The Frenchman is clearly a very talented young player, and Director of Football Hugo Viana is likely to be keeping an eye on him, but you can’t see a bid of £50m to £60m being lodged.
Man City could strengthen other positions
The arrivals of Guehi and Antoine Semenyo have certainly given Guardiola more depth, but there are certain areas of the pitch, such as right-back, where reinforcements could still be brought in.
Whether Viana is actively looking to bring in a third January signing, it remains to be seen, but based on their activity so far this month, it appears the Cityzens are not afraid to splash the clash if an opportunity presents itself.
