Things have not gone well on the pitch for Chelsea since the takeover by BlueCo in 2022.
The club have spent huge amounts on renovating the squad, only to struggle to get results. They’ve churned through managers, and the model of buying low and selling for a profit isn’t looking as easy as the new ownership may have expected.

As badly as it’s going on the pitch, off the pitch it’s perhaps even worse. The club’s inability to find a front of shirt
The briefs to journalists tell you that the reason they’ve not signed a deal is because they’re holding out for more money – but at this point, after 4 years in charge, even a lesser deal would have proved a better idea than… nothing.
The Athletic’s piece on the subject today carries the same claims we’ve heard every six months or so since the takeover:
“Sources at the club have indicated that talks with multiple parties are ongoing and they still expect to have something in place before the end of this season. Chelsea came close to an agreement with one company a few months ago, but complications arose and caused the deal to stall. They are still in talks with that same potential sponsor.”
We’ll believe it when we see it. Even a record breaking deal at this point won’t come close to making up for 3 full seasons of sponsor-less shirts.
