Liverpool are considering their options over another loan move for Lewis Koumas with the expectation the striker's spell at Birmingham City is cut short. Koumas agreed in August to spend the season with the Championship side having attracted interest from a number of clubs, including high-profile Wrexham.

The 20-year-old has featured in 25 games this campaign and has started the last three league games, scoring his first goal for Birmingham in the 3-2 win against runaway leaders Coventry City earlier this month.

But Birmingham, for whom American Football legend Tom Brady is a minority owner, have already been busy in the ongoing transfer window with the permanent signing of Danish striker August Priske and a loan move for Brighton left-winger Ibrahim Osman.

Liverpool are therefore anticipating Koumas will be back at Anfield and expect the player to be a loan target for a number of clubs for the rest of the season, including some from the Championship.

Koumas, who had a successful loan spell in the second tier with Stoke City last season, is keen for regular minutes to bolster his international chances with Wales poised for World Cup qualification play-offs in March.

The forward came through the Academy ranks at Liverpool and scored on his senior Reds debut in the FA Cup win over Southampton in February 2024. He was also on the bench for the League Cup final win over Chelsea that month.

Liverpool have already made a number of decisions to recall players from loan this month, with James McConnell, James Balagizi and Owen Beck all back with the Reds.

Luke Chambers, though, will spend the rest of the season on loan at Championship side Charlton Athletic having recovered from a long-term back problem.
