Slot dropped clear hint about whether Liverpool will replace Andy Robertson in Bournemouth press conference - opinion

The future of Andy Robertson has been cast into doubt ahead of Liverpool’s return to action vs Bournemouth.

Two days removed from an exciting 3-0 win over Marseille, it was shaping up to be a fairly quiet day on the Liverpool front.

There has been some talk about Mohamed Salah and the Saudi Pro League again, but there has been no indication that the 33-year-old is eyeing a move this month.

It emerged on Friday that Tottenham are in talks to sign Robertson from the Reds this month, bombshell news, of course.

Will Liverpool sign a new left-back in January?

Should the transfer go ahead, Milos Kerkez will be the only senior, natural left-back at the club.

In turn, fans would probably like to see a new defender signed to take the Scotsman’s place.

However, we have already heard that Liverpool will have a quiet transfer window, with little to no activity expected.

Now, speaking in his pre-Bournemouth presser on January 23, Slot has dropped a clear hint that nobody will be brought in for Robertson.

As per journalist David Lynch, the Liverpool manager was asked if he believes his team will end the January window without new additions, to which he replied: “That’s what I expect, yeah.”

Andy Robertson joining Tottenham makes one thing obvious

There is just over a week of the transfer window to go, and if Slot’s expectations are met, there will be no cover signed for Robertson.

However, Liverpool simply can’t see out the remainder of the season with just one proper left-back.

Therefore, even if he’s probably not at the level required to play in the Premier League, Kostas Tsimikas will need to be recalled from his AS Roma loan.

Roma may be open to letting Tsimikas leave, given that the Greek has not been a regular starter this term.
