Steven Gerrard is set to make a return to Anfield after being named in the Liverpool FC Legends squad to face Borussia Dortmund - Jurgen Klopp's former club.

The former Reds skipper will take part in the charity game on Saturday, March 28, alongside goalkeepers Pepe Reina, Jerzy Dudek, and Sander Westerveld, as well as Sami Hyypia, Fabio Aurelio, Gregory Vignal, Martin Kelly, and Yossi Benayoun.

Few players have made a more significant impact on Liverpool than Gerrard. Over the course of 17 seasons, the legendary midfielder turned out 710 times for the Reds and netted 186 goals, cementing his status as one of the club's most pivotal and revered figures.

Celebrated for his captaincy, determination and knack for producing match-winning displays when it mattered most, Gerrard led Liverpool through some of the most unforgettable occasions in the club's recent era.

His trophy cabinet includes the Champions League, UEFA Cup, FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Super Cup, with his displays in crucial encounters securing devotion from supporters, and respect from both colleagues and rivals.

Gerrard's homecoming to Anfield will be a significant occasion as Liverpool and Dortmund Legends reconvene a decade after their thrilling Europa League quarterfinal in 2016.

As is customary, one hundred percent of the proceeds from the Legends game – supported by AXA and held in association with Forever Reds – will go directly towards the work of LFC Foundation, and Forever Reds.

This year, money raised will support LFC Foundation's employability schemes, which assist people throughout the community to secure employment, obtain qualifications and acquire new skills through mentoring and training.

The match will also contribute towards the Foundation's long-term ambition to support 500,000 people per season by 2030. Further player announcements will be made in the coming weeks.

With the two sides meeting, there is clear potential that Klopp could return to his former home, particularly as the German serves as an honorary ambassador of the LFC Foundation.

When discussing his new role with the foundation in 2024, which he continues to hold after concluding his trophy-laden spell as Liverpool manager, Klopp said: "The LFC Foundation does an incredible job in the community, both in the Liverpool City Region and beyond.

"I am really proud to continue my work with them and be named the first ever LFC Foundation honorary ambassador."

Klopp famously guided Dortmund to the Bundesliga title in both the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons before joining Anfield, where he stayed for nine years.

While on Merseyside, the 58-year-old delivered Liverpool's sixth Champions League crown and ended the club's 30-year wait for the Premier League title.
