Chelsea deal to sign ‘fantastic’ player this month will actually be way easier than people think - journalist

Chelsea are running out of time if they want to bring any new faces through the door before the January transfer window slams shut.

So far, the Blues are yet to make a first team signing, despite reports that assurances have been made to new manager Liam Rosenior that additions will be made.

A centre-back has appeared to be top of the list, with strong links to Jeremy Jacquet, however a midfielder has also been mentioned as a position the club are looking to strengthen.

Traditionally, business has been far harder to do in January than in the summer, but this is not putting the Blues off interest in a short-term deal for Douglas Luiz.

Chelsea deal for Douglas Luiz easier than people think

The midfielder is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest from Juventus, however journalist Ben Jacobs believes the deal wouldn’t be a difficult one to pull off for the Blues.

He said to ‘The Football Terrace‘: “Douglas Luiz was linked with Chelsea in previous windows, and my expectation now Nottingham Forest’s European game is out of the way, is this is going to advance relatively quickly.

“Luckily, Chelsea have got a really good relationship with Nottingham Forest. He’s on loan there. He’s only played 14 games. There is a conditional obligation to buy that is unlikely to be triggered by appearances.

“And as a consequence, Nottingham Forest are prepared to let Douglas Luiz go back to Juventus. And then it’s all about Chelsea and Juventus, because Chelsea’s perspective is likely a straight loan, possibly a loan with an option, but no permanence to the deal.

“But actually, this one might be a bit smoother than maybe some expect, because Douglas Luiz wants to stay in England. Forest are prepared to sanction an exit. Juventus are prepared to do another loan. What I sense is that Chelsea are serious.”

It would be a temporary deal…

Douglas Luiz’s stance on joining Chelsea

While the deal would not be difficult for the club to pull off, the player would have to accept that he is likely not to be first choice in his position at Stamford Bridge.

However, reports have stated that Luiz is keen on a move to Chelsea, with things not working out as he would have liked at Forest.

The Brazilian has made just eight Premier League appearances since moving to the City Ground, and a change of scenery looks the best course of action for his career at this stage.

At 27 years of age, he would also be bringing some much-needed experience to what is the youngest squad in the Premier League.
