What Andy Robertson has told Liverpool about joining Tottenham as FSG plot 'approach' - journalist

Andy Robertson’s potential move to Tottenham Hotspur is expected to see Liverpool spring into action.

The Scotsman was once a mainstay in the Liverpool backline but has now lost his starting berth to Milos Kerkez.

Robertson wanted to retire at Anfield, but things have changed, and he could now be on the move in January.

It emerged earlier on Friday that Tottenham Hotspur were in contact for Robertson.

Following the news emerging, it was suggested that a move would not happen unless it suited Liverpool and the player.

However, an insight into what the 31-year-old has told his club about a move has now emerged.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs on X/Twitter, ‘Robertson has told Liverpool he is keen on a move to Tottenham.’

It could leave Liverpool in a tricky situation when it comes to squad depth for the remainder of the season.

Conor Bradley’s season-ending injury has already weakened the backline.

And while Joe Gomez has played at left-back previously, he must now act as cover for Bradley at right-back and for Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk at centre-back.

But Liverpool have a plan in place if and when Robertson leaves to join Spurs.

As per the update from Jacobs: “Liverpool set to approach Roma to recall Kostas Tsimikas if Andy Robertson moves to Spurs.

“No formal recall clause in Tsimikas’ loan, but sources close to player have made it clear he wants to return to LFC.”

Tsimikas joined Liverpool in 2020 from Olympiacos and has since played 115 games for the club.

However, a lot of those outings came in cup competitions or off the bench, with the 29-year-old never a regular starter at Anfield unless injury required it.

He’s had similar struggles for regular playing time since moving to Italy, only completing 380 minutes across 11 Serie A matches.
