Slegers delivers update on availability of Arsenal quartet ahead of blockbuster London derby

**Ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Chelsea, Renee Slegers has given an update on the availability of Emily Fox, Leah Williamson, Chloe Kelly and Kyra Cooney-Cross.**

[Arsenal](https://hayters.com/slegers-denies-reports-of-unrest-at-arsenal/) will head to Stamford Bridge to take on London rivals Chelsea in the Women’s Super League, hoping to close the gap on the hosts who sit four points ahead going into the weekend.

The Gunners will be aiming to regain some momentum after two frustrating fixtures against Manchester United, which ended in a goalless stalemate in their last WSL fixture and a Subway League Cup [semi-final exit](https://hayters.com/we-will-support-her-renee-slegers-on-olivia-smith-after-red-card/) in midweek.

They face a challenge against a Chelsea side who knocked league leaders Manchester City out of the League Cup in their own semi-final tie, and are now unbeaten in their last three matches across all competitions.

The Arsenal head coach confirmed that both Leah Williamson and Chloe Kelly would be unavailable for the match, the former still recovering from a calf injury picked up in training and the latter working to return from a knee injury.

Slegers said that both were “progressing really well”, but didn’t give any more details about when fans could expect them back in action. She also acknowledged that Kyra Cooney-Cross, who had returned to Australia in January after her mother was diagnosed with cancer, would not be in the squad.

“She’s just come back. She was in with us when we restarted in January,” said Slegers. “She only had two sessions and travelled back to Australia to see her family.

“She needs to build fitness to be ready to play games. She won’t be in the squad tomorrow,” she concluded.

In positive news, Slegers said that defender Emily Fox would be available for the trip to West London.

The last time the two sides met at Emirates Stadium they settled for a point each, with Chelsea opening early through Alyssa Thompson and Arsenal equalising late on thanks to Alessia Russo – though they had another two goals controversially disallowed.

A win for Arsenal would do wonders for the team’s confidence, especially as they could face Chelsea in the Women’s Champions League last-16.

“Always, of course, you want to build momentum, you want to win, and that would be really good for us,” Slegers acknowledged. “I think with everything that the players have done so far, how they’ve come back in and where we are now, even with the adversities, they’ve been so good.

“So yeah, we go for it and if we are successful tomorrow, we deserve it, because everything they’ve put in so far has been amazing. So we’re going to go for it, of course,” she finished.
