Report: Chelsea make £35m offer to sign AFCON superstar in January, £44m will be enough

Chelsea’s January transfer window has been quiet so far, however reports are stating they are stepping up interest in a number of targets.

The Blues have been pushing to complete a deal to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, with supporters undecided on whether it is the best player for them to pursue.

Fans have frequently called for the club to add more experience to their ranks to bolster Liam Rosenior’s squad, however a move for Jacquet is far more like what the Blues ownership are targeting.

Chelsea make £34m offer for Christ Inao Oulai

The African Cup of Nations didn’t have any active Chelsea players in action. Nicolas Jackson and Mamadou Sarr were both part of the winning Senegal side.

One of the most impressive young talents on display was Christ Inao Oulai, who anchored the midfield for Ivory Coast at the age of 19.

He has clearly caught the attention of Chelsea, and according to Africa Foot, the Blues have made an offer of around £35m to sign him.

The report goes on to say that his current side, Trabzonspor, would consider £44m an appropriate figure to part ways with their young talent.

Who is Christ Inao Oulai?

Despite being just 19 years of age, the midfielder has made 10 appearances this season for the Super Lig side, scoring twice and assisting three times.

He joined from Ligue 2 side Bastia, and now has forced himself to be a regular part of Ivory Coast’s plans.

After starting on the bench for the first two games, he played nearly every subsequent minute in the competition, including in their quarter-final defeat to Egypt.

The signing would likely not be what Chelsea fans are looking for though, especially for the price being discussed. They would much rather see that money spent on a big name addition who can instantly make an impact on the first team squad.
