Sky Sports: £160,000-a-week star agrees to join Tottenham, club-to-club talks ongoing

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed personal terms with Liverpool star Andrew Robertson over a January transfer, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The Lilywhites have had a busy winter window so far this month, bringing in Conor Gallagher to strengthen their midfield from Atletico Madrid, while the club have also added young left-back Souza from Santos as they look to build the squad with the future in mind.

But after veteran defender Ben Davies suffered a broken ankle in the Premier League defeat to West Ham, the club are now looking to bring in an experienced option to replace him and provide quality, and they are edging closer to an agreement.

Robertson, who reportedly earns £160,000-a-week at Anfield, had been set to depart Liverpool at the end of the season on a free transfer, when his contract was due to expire.

However, Spurs have brought their interest from the summer forward and are now pursuing a permanent deal to bring him in this month before the February 2nd deadline, with Liverpool open to a deal out of respect for the Scot, who wants answers over his long-term future.

While talks are ongoing between the two clubs to find an agreement, it has now emerged that the 31-year-old has already agreed terms with Spurs about joining the north London club, and the club are now pushing to bring him in quickly.

Robertson a Brilliant Tottenham Signing

Spurs aren't light on options at full-back, especially after the arrival of Souza. Djed Spence is the first-choice left-back, while Destiny Udogie is still highly-rated and is another option, alongside the new Brazilian and injured Davies.

But Robertson would bring a super-high level of ability and experience into the squad, would be relatively cheap and would add a natural leader into the squad too. At Anfield, he has fallen behind Milos Kerkez as the first-choice left-back, but he could easily make that position his own at Tottenham, and that would allow Spence to push Pedro Porro at his natural right-back position instead.

If Spurs can get a deal over the line for Robertson then it would be a shrewd bit of business, six months earlier than anticipated, and could be a huge boost for a struggling team.
