Liverpool face an intriguing end to the January transfer window as deadline day fast approaches. The Reds are unbeaten in their last 13 matches but there is still room for improvement for Arne Slot ’s side.

The manager has adapted his style in recent weeks after struggling to get all of Liverpool ’s expensive summer signings to gel. Their previous poor form has dented hopes of retaining the Premier League title but the club still have several ambitions left to achieve this term, including securing a Champions League place for next season.

When asked about transfers in his pre-match press conference, Slot said : "I expect there to be no movement. But if there's an opportunity in the market and we think we can strengthen the squad this club will always try to do so. But at this moment in time, no."

While the Liverpool boss has made his feelings clear, the chance to strike the right deal could still emerge in the final days of the window. Here is a look at some of the latest headlines surrounding the club.

Trent Alexander-Arnold's feelings on Liverpool return

Former Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly been instructed to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season. The full-back joined the Spanish giants in the summer but has struggled to nail down a regular place in the team.

Spanish outlet El Nacional have reported that new manager Alvaro Arbeloa has told Alexander-Arnold to leave Los Blancos in the next transfer window, insisting he is not in Madrid’s long-term plans. The England international’s decision to wind down his Liverpool contract provoked controversy last year.

However, the 27-year-old would seemingly be open to returning to his boyhood club in the future after insisting his feelings towards Liverpool had not changed, despite the manner of his exit. Ahead of his new club facing Liverpool in the Champions League earlier this season, Alexander-Arnold reflected on his time at Anfield.

"I will always love the club. I will always be a fan of the club,” he told Amazon Prime Sport. “I will always be thankful for the opportunities [Liverpool gave me] and everything that we achieved together will live with me forever.

"So, no matter what, my feelings won't change towards Liverpool. I have got memories there that will last me a lifetime and no matter how I am received, that won't change."

Liverpool near another exit

Liverpool are in talks with Tottenham Hotspur over selling Andy Robertson in the January transfer window. The club sold James Norris to Shelbourne and allowed Luke Chambers to join Charlton Athletic on loan earlier this month.

The Liverpool icon is in the final year of his contract and has lost his left-back berth to Milos Kerkez this season. The Athletic reports that Spurs initially planned to target Robertson in the summer but have been encouraged to advance their interest.

"We’ll see what happens," he recently said of his future. "We’ve had chats now which will remain private. I've spoken to them and we’ll see what happens.

“Would I like to stay? Yes, but it’s a difficult question to ask. I’ve got five months left and we need to see the option to stay or if there’s options to go and things like that.”
