Wolves face Manchester City as they look to extend their five match unbeaten run across all competitions in 2026

Wolverhampton Wanderers are aiming to continue their mini-revival this weekend against high-flying Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The Old Gold are bottom of the Premier League with a pitiful points tally of eight points from 22 matches. However, they made major strides since the New Year, and are unbeaten in all of their five competitive outings in the league while holding their own against Champions League opposition in a hard-fought 0-0 draw with Newcastle United last time out.

Wolves face arguably their hardest fixture of the calendar year so far by travelling to face a City side that have already given them one major humbling earlier in the campaign.

The fixture marks a repeat of the opening day of the campaign when the Old Gold were hammered 4-0 at home soil by the Sky Blues, with Erling Haaland, Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki all getting on the scoresheet.

They’ll be hoping for a much-improved display this time out, and will hope to show the same defensive reliance that allowed them to frustrate Newcastle last time out.

Wolves are yet to bring in a first team player this summer but have made outgoings with Marshall Munetsi leaving for Paris FC on loan while Ki-Jana Hoever heads to Sheffield United.

Wolves predicted XI vs Man City: goalkeeper and defence

GK: José Sá: The experienced Portuguese shot-stopper is back between the posts and seems destined to be the first choice for the foreseeable future ahead of Sam Johnstone.

RWB: Jackson Tchatchoua: Wolves are likely to play with a back three until the end of the season with Tchatchoua starting at wing-back ahead of the experienced Matt Doherty.

CB: Yerson Mosquera: The Colombian helped the team to a clean sheet against Newcastle United, and occasionally even caused them problems of his own with a few bursts of energy into the oppositions half.

CB: Santiago Bueno: The 27-year-old has picked up more minutes in recent weeks. He was solid last time out against the Magpies but is bound to have his work cut out against a player of Erling Haaland’s calibre.

CB: Ladislav Krejčí: The Czech international has been one of Wolves’ better players this season and definitely their standout signing. He’s capable of playing in central midfield but his best position is in the heart of defence.

LWB: Hugo Bueno: The Spanish defender helped the team to a clean sheet and deserves to keep his place in an unchanged backline.

Wolves predicted XI vs Man City: midfield and attack

CM: Joao Gomes: The Brazil international is renowned for his excellent workrate and physicality which will be crucial in a game where the team are unlikely to have loads of possession.

CM: Andre: The former Fluminense midfielder, who has recently been linked with a move to Liverpool, remains one of the first names on the teamsheet due to his defensive qualities and energy levels.

CAM: Jhon Arias: The Colombian could return to the starting lineup this weekend to replace Hwang Hee-chan.

CAM: Mateus Mane: The teenager has lifted the mood around Molineux since being handed a first team opportunity by Rob Edwards and at present he’s one of the team’s best players.
