Arsenal exploring deal for "unpredictable" African star who's been likened to Yamal

Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a move for an attacking talent with huge potential.

After another summer of heavy spending, it has been a quiet January transfer window for Arsenal so far. Although the Gunners have been linked to a number of players, the only activity they have dealt with so far this month has been a departure, with Ethan Nwaneri joining Marseille on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

Like Nwaneri, it would be in the Arsenal star's best interests.

Arsenal, who have an eye on recruiting for the future this month, are well-positioned in their push to win the Premier League once again. This, alongside the staggering depth that Mikel Arteta has within his squad, has no doubt contributed to Arsenal's lack of transfer activity so far.

With less than two weeks of the window remaining before it slams shut in early February, reports have now suggested that Arsenal are making plans to recruit another promising attacking talent.

Arsenal keen on Etta Eyong

Levante's Etta Eyong celebrates scoring their first goal

As per Ben Jacobs, Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta has been making "several calls to understand the market," with an eye particularly on "forwards and left-wingers". One player that has been a subject of interest for the Gunners is Karl Etta Eyong.

Signed by Levante in the summer for about £2.5 million, Etta Eyong has enjoyed a breakout year in La Liga. The Cameroon international has netted six goals and notched three assists in 17 appearances for the club, which has seen many clubs, including Arsenal, begin to monitor the forward's progression.

Marc Brys, who was head coach of Cameroon until he was sacked just days before the latest Africa Cup of Nations, had nothing but praise for Etta Eyong, saying once, as per Tribuna, when asked about the forward being linked to Barcelona:

"There's always room for a new player on a team if they have the right qualities. Look at Lamine Yamal: a year ago, nobody thought he'd be playing for the first team, and now he's a key player. Etta has that potential too.

"He's dangerous, unpredictable, and can surprise anyone. And that's valuable for any top team. He's a very good player. Very modest and humble, which is a gift.

"He has a good heart, he's polite, and he has no negative attitude. That's what makes him special."

Contending with the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United, the race for Etta Eyong would certainly not be an easy one. Were Arsenal to win, however, the forward could prove a beneficial acquisition for years to come, should he continue on his current trajectory.
