Steven Gerrard will go down in history as one of the greatest ever Liverpool players.
Gerrard was key to Liverpool’s Champions League triumph over AC Milan and spent many years as club captain.
Perhaps only Mohamed Salah comes close to rivalling what the midfielder did at Anfield in the 21st century.

But while Gerrard is one of the greatest of all time, not just at Anfield but in the Premier League overall, he was unable to clinch a league title with his long-time club.
Liverpool did come very close in 2013/14, with a lot of help from one player.
Iago Aspas praises Luis Suarez
The Reds ended that campaign on 84 points, two adrift of eventual champions Manchester City.
Iago Aspas, who arrived from Celta de Vigo in the summer of 2013, was among the players to feature up front that term.

However, the Spaniard’s contributions were more than overshadowed by those of Luis Suarez.
Suarez joined Liverpool from Ajax in 2011 for a reported fee of £22.7m.
He went on to score 82 and assist 32 in 133 matches, including finding the back of the net a staggering 31 times in 2013/14.

Now, speaking to Feeberse, Aspas has said that Suarez was the best player he played with during his time at Liverpool.
The Spaniard was asked: “There you coincided with some incredible players. Sturridge was at his peak, Luis Suarez was there, the legendary Steven Gerrard. Who impressed you the most from that Liverpool team? Coutinho was there too.”
He responded: “Luis Suarez. He was on another level, honestly. I arrived in pre-season, and he was coming back – I don’t know if it was from the Copa America or the World Cup, I don’t really remember. He arrived a bit later. And when he did, even in a simple rondo or a possession drill, you could already see he was the best.
“It’s true that Gerrard was there too, Coutinho, Sterling, Lucas Leiva. We had very, very good players. At centre-back we had Skrtel and Agger, we had Kolo Toure – we had great players. But I think the one who gave us that extra edge, the one who almost took us to winning the league, was Luis Suarez.”

What does Iago Aspas do now?
Aspas endured a difficult spell at Anfield, making just 15 appearances before joining Sevilla on a permanent transfer.
However, he was swiftly sold to former club Celta Vigo in 2015, for whom he has now played 550 games and scored 218 goals.
At 38, Aspas is still a regular starter for his long-time team and has acted as their captain on a number of occasions this term.
The 2025/26 season has so far seen him score four and assist five in 26 matches.
