Chelsea handed major boost in chances of finally signing Jeremy Jacquet

Chelsea’s January transfer window is looking as if it is going to completely revolve around whether they complete a deal to sign Jeremy Jacquet.

Jacquet wants a move to Chelsea this month, and it seems as if there is a chance the opportunity will pass him by if he does not make the switch in the winter.

Original reports were stating that the price Rennes were looking for was too much for the Blues, forcing them to potentially have to change their approach.

It was even stated that Chelsea could consider loaning Jacquet back to appease them for the rest of the season, however this would do little to sort their current issues.

Chelsea handed Jeremy Jacquet boost as Rennes move for replacement

While the deal looked as if it could fizzle out, Rennes’ own transfer activity has given the Blues a major boost late in the window that it could be pulled off.

Journalist Florian Plettenberg has stated the Ligue 1 side are seriously considering signing Toulouse star Charlie Cresswell to replace the youngster.

He said: “Stade Rennes are seriously considering entering negotiations for Charlie Cresswell should Jeremy Jacquet move to Chelsea.

“VfL Wolfsburg are currently almost out of the race for Cresswell, after a €23 million bid from Toulouse was also rejected.”

Chelsea fans divided on Jacquet

Clearly, Jacquet is one of the most promising young defenders in world football, who by all accounts is ready for Premier League football.

Chelsea’s big problem is they need an instant solution to come and in make themselves a first choice defender for Liam Rosenior.

Chelsea fans have been left divided on the Jacquet signing, with many pointing to the fact that Marc Guehi was also seemingly available for a far cheaper fee this month.

The England international has bags of Premier League experience, but has instead completed a move to Manchester City from Crystal Palace.
