The January transfer window is heating up as Premier League clubs enter the final week. Manchester United have yet to make a signing but confirmed a major departure, with Casemiro set to leave the club at the end of the season.
This has sparked links to a number of midfield targets, including Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton. The midfielder is still a target for Liverpool this summer, and interest will likely ramp up as we head towards the end of the campaign. Talks are expected to start at around £65m.
Chelsea are close to signing Sheffield Wednesday full-back Yisa Alao, fending off interest from United and Liverpool, while Tottenham are working on a deal to sign Liverpool’s Andy Robertson. Liverpool have already acted to cover Robertson’s potential departure, recalling Kostas Tsimikas.
Women’s Super League clubs have also been active in the winter window. West Ham United have confirmed the loan signing of former Liverpool midfielder Katie Zelem from London City Lionesses until the end of the season.
Zelem reunites with Head Coach Rita Guarino. Zelem brings a wealth of experience, having made 143 WSL appearances, won two top-flight titles, and claimed a Women’s FA Cup winner’s medal.
Zelem also has 12 senior England caps, including appearances at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and helped the Lionesses win back-to-back Arnold Clark Cup titles in 2022 and 2023.
She made 18 appearances and scored four goals under Guarino as Juventus clinched their first-ever Serie A title in 2017/18, having joined the Italian side from Liverpool, where she won consecutive WSL titles in her first two professional seasons. She later spent six years at Manchester United, guiding the Red Devils to WSL promotion in 2019 and captaining them to Women’s FA Cup glory in 2024.
In her first interview with West Ham TV, Zelem said: “I’m so excited to be joining West Ham United. “I’m a technical player who loves to get on the ball and make things happen. I want to be successful here and use my experience to help the team as much as possible.
“I know that there’s a great group of girls in the building and we have a solid foundation to build on for the rest of the season. I’ve also worked with Rita before at Juventus so she was a big factor in me joining the Club. I like her style of play and what she’s trying to build here.
“We have always had a good relationship and it’s really nice to be reunited. I’m a huge football fan so I’m aware of the Club’s rich history. I can feel the positive energy already and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
