Liverpool update regarding Mohamed Salah future
Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah is facing an uncertain future at Anfield. He was handed a two-year contract extension last year running until June 2027. However, it remains to be seen whether he will be sticking around for the duration of that.
In this latest update regarding his situation in England, i News report a source has told them that Saudi Arabian clubs feel it is ‘inevitable’ that he will move to the Middle East this summer. Teams are said to be preparing offers for him for later this year. However, he is not expected to leave this month.
Salah, 33, has been on the books at Liverpool since joining them back in 2017. He has since scored 250 goals in 422 games in all competitions, eight of which have come this season. The Egypt international, who has 115 caps to his name, has seen his game time dry up under Slot over recent times.
He started in their last outing against Marseille though for the first time since late November. Therefore, it appears that he is now back in the picture. Prior to his move to the Reds, he previously had spells with the likes of FC Basel, Chelsea, Fiorentina and Roma.
What now for Mohamed Salah at Liverpool?
Salah has been one of Liverpool’s greatest ever players but they may well be bracing themselves for a departure when this term ends. A switch to Saudi Arabia appears to be on the cards for him. In the meantime, he will be eager to find the net more over the coming months.
Speaking after their victory against Marseille, Slot said: "It says a lot about how big a professional he [Salah] is that he can be away for more than a month with a different team and be so fit to play 90 minutes for us after one day of training. He was so close to a goal. It would usually be a goal from him, but it didn't harm us because we scored three."
Meanwhile, pundit Stephen Warnock said: "Salah slotted in nicely into Liverpool's shape. If you want to get the best out of him, you need continuity and consistency, so I think Slot will use him like this again. It takes away that defensive responsibility, of having to track back as far as when he is out wide. It leaves him fresher and more dangerous when he is not running as much.”
