Alex Crook says Chelsea player is still 'one to watch' for West Ham in January

West Ham could yet be offered hope in their pursuit of Axel Disasi during the January transfer window.

Indeed, Disasi has been linked with a move to West Ham United for what feels like an age now.

After conceding 44 goals in the Premier League alone thus far this season, West Ham could certainly do with defensive reinforcements.

How much money would it take for you to sell Lucas Paqueta? 🤔

It was unhelpful, then, that Chelsea recently made a U-turn on Disasi. With Liam Rosenior now in charge, the defender has been brought back into the first team fold in west London.

Still, there could yet be movement on the defender during what remains of the window.

Chelsea could still sell Axel Disasi to West Ham United

That’s because leading transfer reporter Alex Crook hinted that there could still be another development on the Frenchman’s future.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Crook suggested that Chelsea may have only offered the former Monaco defender a lifeline so that they can raise his value.

The 27-year-old will have done little to attract much interest while operating in the U21 squad, so perhaps bringing him back in at senior level could help convince other clubs to take him off their hands.

Why would we keep an unhappy player 😂

What does this tell you about the decision making behind the scenes?!

On Friday, Crook hinted that both West Ham and Crystal Palace retain an interest in the defender.

He said: “Axel Disasi, I think, could be one to watch for West Ham.

“He’s back training with Chelsea now. I think primarily to increase his value in this window but both West Ham and Crystal Palace have been mentioned to me.”

Axel Disasi has already rejected West Ham United

West Ham plan to sign a new defender and that feels wise given their dreadful record this season.

They will have to hope that Disasi changes his mind from a decision he made a few months ago, however.

Back in September, Disasi confirmed that he rejected West Ham.

“During the period between the approaches from Bournemouth and West Ham, Monaco comes up… and there, you get me in my feeling.

“Monaco, where I spent three incredible years, when they came up (as being interested), all my memories came flooding back. Monaco is home.

“I hoped that Chelsea would find a solution so I could go on loan. I insisted right up to the last minute to go to Monaco (not West Ham or Bournemouth).”

It remains to be seen if his thought process has changed. Having been part of the France squad for the last World Cup, perhaps the fact the next one is just around the corner could sway him.

Either way, West Ham need to get a new defensive signing over the line soon.
