Opinion: Liam Rosenior makes genius Chelsea decision after learning from Jose Mourinho

Liam Rosenior is setting down his stool at Chelsea by picking the names of his ‘untouchables’ but they shall not be named.

Chelsea have had to deal with speculation surrounding Cole Palmer’s future of late, with Man United interested in signing the midfielder.

However, this situation was cleared up by Liam Rosenior, who claimed that Palmer is happy at Chelsea.

Palmer isn’t the only Chelsea player who has attracted interest this month, as Paris Saint-Germain have been sniffing around for Enzo Fernandez, too.

Though, Chelsea are set to put their foot down, it seems.

Liam Rosenior has his ‘untouchables’ at Chelsea

According to The Telegraph, Reece James and Moises Caicedo are likely a part of the ‘untouchables’ at Chelsea and Cole Palmer is confirmed as one.

But, Chelsea have been careful not to create a hierarchy within the squad, so are unlikely to formalise or name the current group of ‘untouchables’ as Jose Mourinho did.

It’s no surprise to see Moises Caicedo and Reece James named as the other two, given their roles and importance to the side, but you could probably hazard a guess at a couple more.

Not naming more than Cole Palmer is absolutely the right call, though.

Liam Rosenior avoids a potential Jose Mourinho repeat

Jose Mourinho’s untouchables strategy often created a divided squad, which is exactly what Liam Rosenior doesn’t need right now.

By not naming untouchables, Rosenior keeps the competition high. It tells the young squad that everyone has a path to the starting XI if they follow the plan.

Naming the players also puts added pressure on them and makes others feel less important.

Imagine how someone like Estevao Willian or Marc Cucurella may feel if they found out they are not viewed as one of the most important players.
