Liverpool have the chance to bring in some new faces before the end of the January transfer window
Liverpool were very active on the recruitment front in the summer after winning the Premier League title last season. They delved into the market to bring in the likes of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, among others. It has taken a while for their new signings to gel together in this campaign.
The Reds are sat in 4th place in the table after 22 fixtures above Manchester United. They are inside the top four along with Arsenal, Manchester City and Aston Villa. Here is a look at what their starting XI could look like after January if the transfer rumours are true...
Liverpool starting XI if the January transfer rumours are true: goalkeeper and defence
Goalkeeper: Alisson
Centre-backs: Micky Van de Ven, Virgil van Dijk
Full-backs: Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson faces competition for his position between the sticks from Giorgi Mamardashvili and Freddie Woodman. Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez are two full-backs who like to get up and down the flanks of defence. Andy Robertson provides back-up from the bench for the latter.
The Reds are keen on Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Micky van de Ven as a potential partner for Virgil van Dijk, accoriding to the Daily Mail. They could see the Holland international, who has 17 caps to his name, as an ideal replacement for Ibrahima Konate, who is out of contract in June and is yet to pen an extension. At the age of 24, the ex-Wolfsburg man is still young and has potential to develop in the future.
Liverpool starting XI if the January transfer rumours are true: midfield and attack
Central midfielders: Sandro Tonali, Alexis MacAllister, Dominik Szoboszlai
Wingers: Yan Diomande, Cody Gakpo
Striker: Alexander Isak
Liverpool pair Alexis MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai are two key players and have flourished under the guidance of Slot. The Merseyside giants have been linked with a surprise swoop for Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali. As per Spanish news outlet Fichajes, they are admirers of the Italian this winter.
Further up the pitch, Cody Gakpo and Isak (when fit) are two of the first names on the team sheet. The latter has struggled for goals since his big money move but still has plenty of time left on his side. Players like Ekitike and Wirtz will also be pushing for a start.
The Reds are said to be keen on RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande. The 19-year-old has emerged on their radar, say CaughtOffside, and they could launch a bid for him between now and the end of the window on Monday 2nd February. He has burst onto the scene in the Bundesliga this term and is being tipped for a bright future in the game.
Liverpool could see the teenager as someone to bolster their attacking department. If he joined them, he would give them more competition and depth at the top end of the pitch and something different to what they already have at their disposal. In addition, he is quick and has pace to burn.
