Arsenal‘Weighing Up’Move for£86m Ex-Man City Star Who Andrea Berta Loves

Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a move to sign former Man City striker Julian Alvarez.

The Gunners are unlikely to make any big signings in the January transfer window as they already completed most of the business they would have wanted in the summer. Mikel Arteta is very happy with his squad, but that doesn’t mean work isn’t getting started for next summer.

Viktor Gyokeres has struggled since joining from Sporting CP in the summer, with many believing that Arteta should start Gabriel Jesus over Gyokeres, despite Jesus’ lack of regular football over the past two years.

Arsenal could decide to sign another striker in the summer, especially if they sell a couple of names, and it is understood they’re looking at a former Man City star.

Arsenal ‘weighing up’ move for Alvarez

The Gunners were interested in signing Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window, but they opted to go after Gyokeres instead, due to Alvarez’s expensive £86m asking price.

Man City sold him to Atletico in 2024, when Andrea Berta was the Spanish club’s Sporting Director, but now he’s at Arsenal, it is understood that Berta wants to re-unite with Alvarez again by bringing him to the Emirates.

According to ESPN, Arsenal are ‘weighing up’ a summer move for the former Man City star, in what would be a blockbuster deal to help provide Arteta with more firepower up front.

Chelsea also keen on Alvarez

Arsenal aren’t the only Premier League club who are interested in signing the Argentine striker, as it is understood Chelsea are also keen, as they look for an upgrade on Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.

If both the Gunners and Chelsea make a move for the Atletico striker in the summer, it could become a bidding war, which would make it very interesting, and potentially very expensive based on Madrid’s current asking price for Alvarez.
