Arteta praise for January Arsenal deal–Gunners free sign£100M star?–Arsenal tipped to sell shock stay

Here is a roundup of the top Arsenal news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews featuring the likes of Mikel Arteta, Miles Lewis-Skelly and Anthony Gordon that you may have missed…

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has praised Mikel Arteta for sanctioning Arsenal’s ‘extremely clever’ January loan for Ethan Nwaneri.

Despite struggling for minutes, ARSENAL initially wanted Nwaneri to remain in north London and reap the benefits of being in an around a squad that could well end the club’s 22-year title drought, but the attacker made it clear to Arsenal that a move to Marseille appealed as he wanted to play

The England U21 star joins a Marseille side who are third in Ligue 1 – eight points behind surprise leaders Lens and mid-table in the Champions League group phase, and asked for his opinion on young players going on loan moves abroad, ex-Liverpool captain Gerrard said on TNT Sports: ‘I love it, I love it. If this works, everyone can be a winner from it.

‘Mikel Arteta has been extremely clever here because he’s sending him to De Zerbi who has a track record of improving players. He will give him the time and the education and the development he needs.

‘He will get more game-time playing for Marseille and if he samples the league, samples the experiences like tonight it’s not going to do any harm for his development.

‘He’s a top talent, now he needs to get some experience and this will bode well for him in the future.’

‘From a selfish point of view he probably wanted to keep him around the squad,’ Gerrard added. ‘He’s going for the Premier League and they’re involved in the Champions League – they’re going for the quadruple at this point.

‘You want as many options as you possibly can but there’s a part of you that thinks about the player and where you want him to be in the next few years.

‘If he’s going to be a top player for ARSENAL the best thing for him is to play games, give him different experiences and test him out.

‘Hopefully in six months he comes back with more games under his belt, more experience and he’s a better player. Without a doubt, De Zerbi will make him a better player.’

ARSENAL TOLD SELL LEWIS-SKELLY

Alan Smith has controversially suggested that Arsenal should consider selling talented young full-back Myles Lewis-Skelly this summer, as the talented lad has really struggled this season

Lewis-Skelly burst onto the scene last term, breaking out of Arsenal’s youth ranks to establish himself as a genuine first-team star alongside fellow academy product Ethan Nwaneri, But despite that promising breakthrough season, Lewis-Skelly has found regular minutes harder to come by this season, with the teenager falling behind Riccardo Calafiori in the pecking order

Lewis-Skelly has made just one solitary league start so far this campaign, although he did start in *ARSENAL*’ midweek Champions League victory over Inter at San Siro, but former Gunners striker Smith believes that the club might be wise to cash in on Lewis-Skelly in the summer.

‘He is just not good enough defensively,’ Smith told BestBettingSites.co.uk when asked about Lewis-Skelly.

‘He’s been brought up as a midfielder, and when he’s had 1v1s, he has struggled, for example, when Frimpong was up against him in the Liverpool game, because he’s not the quickest either, and he’s not a natural defender.

‘He’s got three players in front of him who can all defend better. So, looking forward to the summer, I think it might be a case of selling him, for PSR and all that, being a youth team player, it’s pure profit

‘So, unfortunately, I think he might have to leave the club.’

IcFootballnews Says…

Lewis-Skelly is one of the most talented left-backs in the country and a ARSENAL player that Mikel Arteta can turn into one of the best in the game, he has a long future ahead of him if he makes the right career choices.

Arteta wont sell the young man, they may not even let him go out on loan, he should stay where he is, learn from the experienced players and keep on fighting for his place in the side, it will come

GORDON BOOST

Pundit Mick Brown has told clubs including Arsenal and Liverpool that Anthony Gordon may be available to sign in the summer, as Newcastle may be open to selling the winger.

ARSENAL have been talked about alot over the past couple of weeks, as they have constantly been linked with some big players with reports suggesting that Mikel Arteta may want to add a couple of stars to the side before the close of the transfer window.

Arsenal are sitting top of the Premier League, playing some great football and also have one of the best squads in the League, but Arteta knows that there is alot more games to play before the title is one and a few injuries would scupper their campaign.

Links between the Gunners and the England international have resurfaced in the last few weeks or so as Mikel Arteta looks to further strengthen his formidable attacking options in north London.

Arsenal were mentioned in connection with Gordon last summer, having been said to have expressed an interest along with the likes of Spain star Nico Williams.

Brown told Football Insider that Newcastle are prepared to let Gordon leave at the end of the season if they receive a “big” offer.: “Gordon has been linked to Arsenal in the past,” Brown told Football Insider.

“But if he continues like this the likes of Liverpool and ARSENAL for example won’t be interested

“He shares some qualities with Madueke, he’s very direct, wants to get into attacking areas and to get at people, but if you offered me both I would take Madueke.

“For Arsenal, it seems Arteta is happy with the options he’s got out wide at the moment. Madueke, Saka and Martinelli are three very good options, and then you’ve got the likes of Trossard to come in there too, so it’s not a priority.

“They would be taking a risk signing Gordon, because he’s not showing at the moment that he should be playing at the very highest level.

“Plus, it would be an expensive deal for the risk you’d be taking. They’ll weigh up the pros and cons but ultimately I think it’s unlikely.”
