Report: Chelsea believe they have an'elite'20-year-old who hasn't even played a game

Filip Jorgensen’s future at Chelsea is up in the air after struggling for minutes this season.

Robert Sanchez has made the number one position his own, largely eliminating the errors that plagued him at Chelsea in seasons past.

After a disappointing performance against Arsenal, Sanchez single-handedly kept Chelsea in the game against Brentford with a number of key saves.

Does Jorgensen deserve to start over Sanchez?

This has seen Filip Jorgensen suffer as a consequence. The goalkeeper has played just twice in the Premier League this season, which has raised speculation.

Bayern Leverkusen have even registered an interest in signing Jorgensen.

And it appears as if Chelsea have their eyes on a potential replacement.

Mike Penders catches the eye at Chelsea

Despite being on loan at Strasbourg, Mike Penders is coming up in plenty of conversations behind the scenes at Chelsea.

According to the Daily Mail, the view from sources inside Chelsea is that Mike Penders’ potential is ‘absolutely elite’.

He was a big reason why the club never committed to signing a new goalkeeper, such as AC Milan’s Mike Maignan.

But he won’t be returning from his loan spell until the summer.

Is Mike Penders the ultimate proof that the Strasbourg partnership actually works?👀

The writing is on the wall for Jorgensen

The internal buzz surrounding Mike Penders has reached a level that essentially signals the end of Filip Jorgensen’s long-term prospects at.

Jorgensen has failed to stake his claim as a starter under Enzo Maresca and now Liam Rosenior. While he has had his bright moments, his recent struggles and injury issues have allowed the conversation to drift toward Penders’ return this summer.

Penders’ ball-playing statistics in Ligue 1 align perfectly with Liam Rosenior’s tactical play he desires at Chelsea, making him a more natural fit.

If Penders returns to Cobham this July as expected, he won’t be coming back to sit on the bench; he’ll be arriving to take the gloves, leaving Jorgensen as an expensive third choice or, more likely, a sellable asset.

With Robert Sanchez often favored for his experience and homegrown status, and Penders viewed as the next superstar, Jorgensen is becoming the odd man out in a squad that needs to trim its numbers.
