Man United rival Arsenal for ‘dangerous’ striker backed to follow similar path to Lamine Yamal

Man United are rivalling Arsenal for exciting La Liga forward Karl Etta Eyong

Manchester United are looking to add a clinical striker to their ranks this year and are reportedly targeting La Liga star Karl Etta Eyong.

The Cameroon international only signed for current club Levante last summer but he is already being earmarked by multiple clubs, including Spanish rivals Barcelona.

Etta Eyong’s potential trajectory has been likened to that of Lamine Yamal, who is now a household name at just 18 years of age.

According to reporter Ben Jacobs, United are among the clubs showing interest in Etta Eyong, who is under contract with Levante until 2029. Arsenal are also in the picture, while Real Madrid and Barcelona have been mentioned as well.

The Red Devils are looking for a reliable centre-forward who can score week in, week out. They splashed £74 million on Benjamin Sesko last summer but he has struggled to maintain regular form since his arrival at Old Trafford.

The Slovenia international has four Premier League goals so far this season. His brace against Burnley ensured United came away with a point but his last goal before that was back in October.

Etta Eyong has six La Liga goals so far this season but former Cameroon manager Marc Brys believes he could follow a similar path to Yamal.

Etta Eyong is showing all the signs of being a top class striker, according to his former international head coach.

Brys recently heaped the praise on the 22-year-old, telling Mundo Deportivo: “He's a very good player. Very modest and humble, which is a gift. He's not an egocentric striker - he plays for the team. I like that he's hard-working, he draws attention so others can take advantage of the space.”

Brys was naturally asked whether he thought Etta Eyong was the kind of forward who could go on to play for Barcelona one day in his career.

“I think so, given his potential,” the 63-year-old manager replied. “There's always room for a new player on a team if they have the right qualities. Look at Lamine Yamal, a year ago, nobody thought he'd be playing for the first team, and now he's a key player.

“Etta has that potential too. He's dangerous, unpredictable, and can surprise anyone. And that's valuable for any top team.”
