‘Remarkable’ Liverpool target will now be more expensive than Man City’s Josko Gvardiol - journalist

Liverpool are expected to have a busy 2026 summer transfer window.

Despite potentially losing Andy Robertson to Tottenham Hotspur this month, Liverpool are unlikely to make January additions.

But, just like in 2025, a number of changes could be made at Anfield ahead of 2025/26.

Firstly, Joe Gomez could be moved on, while Ibrahima Konate is still on track to become a free agent.

As a result, a potential centre-back signing, with Nico Schlotterbeck of interest, may be on the cards.

Elsewhere, there have been heavy links to Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig.

Diomande has said he wants to play for Liverpool amid rumours of a potential transfer.

However, just because a player says he wants to join a team, that by no means guarantees a deal will happen.

We have seen this previously when Josko Gvardiol said Liverpool were his dream club.

Gvardiol, like Diomande, was an RB Leipzig player at the time, but ended up moving to Manchester City instead for a reported £77m.

A huge sum, but Liverpool will almost certainly now have to pay more if they want to land Leipzig’s talented young winger.

As per Florian Plettenberg: “RB Leipzig are relaxed and are demanding at least €100 million for Yan #Diomande in the summer, provided his performances in the second half of the season do not stagnate.

“Several top clubs are hoping to secure him for €60–70 million. Leipzig will not go along with that.”

Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and more eyeing Yan Diomande

The teenager has seven goals and four assists in 18 matches so far this term and is able to play across the entire frontline.

It could make him an excellent replacement for Mohamed Salah if he leaves this summer or in 2027 when his contract expires.

However, as we saw with a potential move for Marc Guehi, Liverpool could face heavy competition for Diomande, who has been called ‘remarkable’.

In another update on X/Twitter, Plettenberg wrote: “Premier League clubs that regularly scout Yan #Diomande at the stadium: Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Aston Villa.”
