NBA fans troll Nets guard Cam Thomas after viral benching

The Brooklyn Nets have been one of the worst teams in the NBA this season, and Cam Thomas didn’t help their image Friday night against the Boston Celtics.

The 24 year old has recently been linked with potential trades before the 2026 NBA trade deadline. However, Thomas was abruptly benched during the Eastern Conference matchup after a wild incident that went viral.

Towards the end of the first quarter, Cam Thomas was pulled from the game after tanking a shooting opportunity in order to protect his shooting percentage. The Nets guard passed up a clear shooting chance before head coach Jordi Fernandez removed him.

This season, Thomas has been one of the few bright spots for Brooklyn after averaging over 16 points per game. Meanwhile, his shooting percentage has hovered right around the 40 percent mark from the field.

It’s certainly not among the league’s best, but with the Nets trying to move Cam Thomas before the Feb. 5 NBA trade deadline it makes sense why the young guard would try to protect his stats.

Many NBA experts don’t expect much movement before this season’s trade deadline. However, a name many teams will be watching is Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo.
