Stuart Pearce makes Leeds United reference while discussing Liverpool – “Should not be…

Stuart Pearce Leeds United

Leeds United had a great start to the year, after they pulled off great results against Liverpool and Manchester United. The Whites continued their impressive run to end last year.

In December, Daniel Farke’s side managed to turn things around in a big way. From going on a winless run, and media tipping the Leeds boss to be sacked; the club then went on an impressive six-game unbeaten run. Since the end of last month, the only team that Leeds have lost to is Newcastle United.

The club have now put an eight-point cushion between themselves and the relegation zone. But the ownership have pushed to bolster the team in the fight for survival. Leeds have already added Facundo Buonanotte to the first team on loan, and are pushing to sign Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Stuart Pearce references Leeds United in Liverpool verdict

When Leeds visited Anfield, many expected the game to be similar to the 3-3 draw at Elland Road. But Daniel Farke took a different approach, being more conservative in the game and focusing on counter attacks. The Whites left Anfield with a clean sheet and a precious point.

Stuart Pearce has been discussing Liverpool’s season on talkSport, and he mentioned that dropping points against the likes of Leeds United was very poor:

“You look at Liverpool this season and there has been a few games where you think that they need to be doing more.

“The Leeds game at Anfield was the one. I was watching that game and Leeds were comfortable.

“They came to Anfield, they got a point and they were comfortable for practically all of the game. That should not be happening, especially at Anfield.

“They have spent a lot of money on those forward players and I think in the Premier League especially, they need to be doing more.”

Leeds have been impressive since turnaround

Stuart Pearce is right about Liverpool being a poor team to drop some points this season, but singling out Leeds United is a bad decision. The Whites have been one of the most consistent teams in the last few weeks.

Their run of form has seen them get precious points against much better opposition. The Whites are on the right track and will hope they can continue this form till the end of the season. Safety is the priority, and with the backing of the 49ers in the January window, survival should be a realistic target for the club.
