Chelsea have already addressed the reported interest from Manchester United in Cole Palmer. His gradual return to fitness since December has sparked speculation about a potential transfer to the club he supported as a youngster.

Palmer originally sustained a groin injury at the beginning of the 2025/26 season and was rushed back prematurely, reportedly making the problem worse. During his two-month absence, he also suffered a broken toe, pushing back his return until shortly before the festive period.

Since his comeback, the England midfielder has only managed two complete 90-minute appearances, including last weekend's victory over Brentford, where he netted his fifth goal of the season.

Nevertheless, reports this week have indicated that United are monitoring the 23 year old's situation.

The Telegraph, however, understands that Palmer is among a new generation of 'untouchables' whom the club have no plans to sell, regardless of his childhood loyalty to United.

Meanwhile, Blues manager Liam Rosenior remains confident that Palmer is content at Stamford Bridge, saying: "I've had numerous conversations with Cole and he seems very happy to be here.

"He's a huge part in our long-term plans. My job and the club's job is to get him into a situation where he can consistently perform to the level he wants to.

"There was frustration in the Brentford game. We need to look after him and that's why I didn't involve him in the last game."

Chelsea have been careful to avoid establishing any formal hierarchy within the squad, making it improbable they would officially designate or announce a group of 'untouchables' in the manner Jose Mourinho once did.

In August 2024, Palmer secured his long-term future at Chelsea by penning a two-year contract extension, tying him to Stamford Bridge until at least June 2033.

Putting an end to any speculation, he told club media: "I'm delighted to sign this new deal.

"I achieved a lot in my first season here and hopefully I can continue to experience great things at this club, both on a personal level and in terms of bringing success and trophies to Chelsea."
