Lakers negative trade asset fails to draw interest before deadline

The Lakers have found little trade interest in Dalton Knecht, who is now viewed as a negative asset and could be moved as part of a larger deal as Los Angeles searches for a 3-and-D wing before the trade deadline.

The Los Angeles Lakers have found little to no trade interest in Dalton Knecht, according to Evan Sidery of Forbes.

Los Angeles has been shopping Knecht alongside expiring contracts as it looks to acquire a 3-and-D wing. However, interest around the sophomore wing has been limited so far.

NBA reporter Jovan Buha previously noted that it's only a matter of time before Knecht is moved, even if that doesn't happen before the Feb. 5 trade deadline.

"I think he's on his way out, whether it's at this deadline or over the summer," Buha said. "I think eventually he'll be traded somewhere. I don't know specifically in the context of what the deal will be, but I think it'll likely be as part of a larger trade where he's more of a throw-in as sort of a sweetener."

According to Buha, the 24-year-old is now viewed as "a negative asset."

Selected 17th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, Knecht is averaging 4.8 points per game while shooting 43.7% from the field and 31.9% from three. He's also contributing 1.6 rebounds per game in 36 appearances, playing 12.5 minutes per contest.

The Lakers are reportedly prioritizing the addition of a 3-and-D wing ahead of the February 5 deadline, as the first half of the season has highlighted the team's lack of athleticism and defensive depth.
