Celtic have made contact with Premier League giants Manchester City over a deal to sign Divine Mukasa this month, according to The Celtic Way.
The Bhoys have been keen to add to their squad all month as they look to climb back up the Scottish Premiership table to try and catch league leaders Hearts, with deals already completed for right-back Julian Araujo from Bournemouth and striker Tomas Cvancara from Borussia Monchengladbach on loan until the end of the season.
But the club are still keen to add more options to Martin O'Neill's squad, and they have made an ambitious move to bring in a very talented youngster from England's top-flight once again.
Divine Mukasa
Mukasa, who has been described as 'top' by Guardiola and compared to Mesut Ozil, has made his breakthrough into the Man City first-team this season, featuring twice in the Premier League and also in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
His performances have caught the eye of several across Europe, and the Scottish champions have identified his creative ability and physical attributes as something that could aid their title charge in the second half of the season.
It's reported that the Hoops made contact with Man City to discuss a loan deal until the end of the season this week, however, they were met with a swift rejection. Guardiola is understood to be a big fan of the England youth international, and he is unlikely to be willing to let him depart in mid-season, instead believing that his development is better suited by training with the first-team at Man City.
That makes any deal highly unlikely to happen in this transfer window, but it does show that Celtic are still active behind the scenes and that they want a new midfielder to add to their squad.
Celtic Must Make More Signings
Celtic manager Martin O'Neill looks on with his arms folded
While O'Neill has been backed with the signing of Cvancara, and Celtic strengthened with Araujo's arrival before his return, it's not enough to get this team where they want to be.
Defensively the team still doesn't look strong enough, and a centre-back should be a priority. Adding goals and creativity to the team should also be something that isn't overlooked, and while Mukasa would have been a shrewd bit of business, there are others out there.
Whether it's an attacking midfielder or another striker, they need more, and the board simply cannot afford to let O'Neill down after the season they have had so far.
