With the clock ticking down to transfer deadline day, Liverpool are rapidly running out of time to add fresh faces to their squad. The Premier League champions have been quiet in the market this month, which was to be expected following their £400million outlay last summer.

Still, with Arsenal holding a healthy lead at the top of the table and Liverpool still wobbling after a topsy-turvy start to the campaign, a couple of well-judged signings before the window shuts on February 2 could prove invaluable.

Whether that means accelerating plans originally pencilled in for the summer or capitalising on a surprise opening, Liverpool are tipped to probe the market in the closing stages of the window.

That said, it's unclear at this stage if any deals will actually be finalised. Below, ECHO brings you a round up of the latest Liverpool-related transfer stories.

Schlotterbeck interest

Liverpool are considering a £56million bid for Borussia Dortmund central defender Nico Schlotterbeck. The German international has emerged as one of the Bundesliga's most impressive defenders and has long been admired by the Anfield hierarchy.

Following their failure to land Marc Guehi from Manchester City, Liverpool have intensified their search for a new centre back, especially with Ibrahima Konate widely expected to leave at the end of the campaign. Although the initial intention was to delay any move until the summer, persistent defensive issues may yet prompt action before the January window slams shut.

Schlotterbeck is tied to Dortmund until the end of next season, which could pave the way for a reduced-fee transfer in the summer if a new deal is not agreed. Discussions between the player and the club remain ongoing, but no agreement has been struck - a scenario Liverpool are watching carefully as they weigh up their options.

Robertson to Tottenham update

Andy Robertson appears to be closing in on a switch to Tottenham after slipping down the pecking order at Liverpool. The Scotland left-back has struggled for regular minutes under Arne Slot since the arrival of Milos Kerkez and has featured from the start in just four Premier League games this term.

Tottenham are now stepping up efforts to lure the 31-year-old to north London, with a package worth roughly £5m thought to be under discussion. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that Robertson is "keen on the move" and "ready for a fresh challenge" after eight-and-a-half silverware-filled years on Merseyside.

"The negotiation is advancing very fast, very well - so the deal could be done soon for Andy Robertson to become a new Tottenham player from Liverpool," Romano said.

With Robertson's contract expiring in the summer, an exit at the end of the season had long seemed inevitable, but a January transfer would allow Liverpool to secure a fee. That said, such a move would leave Slot light at left-back, possibly requiring the recall of Kostas Tsimikas from his loan stint at Roma before any deal is approved.
