Scouts sent: Arsenal holding internal talks over signing "excellent" Real Madrid gem in £43m…

Arsenal are now reportedly holding internal discussions about signing a young Real Madrid defender, who they've already scouted.

Arteta: Arsenal know "how important" Man Utd clash is

Be it in the Champions League, the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup or, indeed, the Premier League, Arsenal have simply marched on this season. The Gunners have been a level above both domestically and in Europe, but Mikel Arteta is not prepared to simply admire his work. He wants to make sure that his side finally finish the job.

With a Manchester United side who eased past Manchester City up next, the Spaniard reiterated that Arsenal know just how important it is to take all three points this weekend.

The manager said: “They are so good in a lot of departments. It is clear that when that team has the space to run and certain players to activate their runs, they become lethal and you saw that a few days ago in Manchester.

“Michael coming in will bring new ideas. Always, the intensity rises up. And you could see that in the Manchester derby, the kind of behaviours and the game that they played, so we will expect a really tough match and we’ll adapt to that for sure. But we are at home and we know how important that game is for us.”

After Man City picked up three points against Wolverhampton Wanderers, victory would restore the Gunners' lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points with 15 games to go.

Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez

It's not just on the pitch that Arsenal are in a ruthless mood, however. Away from the action, they've been linked with moves for the likes of former Man City star Julian Alvarez as well as Real Madrid's Victor Valdepenas.

Arsenal hold internal talks to sign Valdepenas

As reported by BBC Sport's Sami Mokbel, Arsenal have now held internal talks over signing Valdepenas from Real Madrid. The Gunners have sent scouts to watch the 19-year-old defender and could look to make their move in the near future.

It's no shock that the Premier League leaders have set their sights on yet another defender. They've picked up quite the reputation for the work that goes on in their backline and could now add a future star to their roster.

Dubbed "excellent" by Como scout Ben Mattinson, it would be a big decision for Valdepenas to swap Madrid for Arsenal this year. Arsenal rarely shy away from handing young players opportunities though, and they are opportunities that Madrid are yet to hand their teenage defender.

The 22-year-old is enjoying a breakout season

He's made just one La Liga appearance this season, sparking doubts about his future in Spain, especially when considering reports that he has a release clause worth €50m (£43m).
