Bournemouth 3-2 Liverpool: Adli’s stoppage-time winner hands Iraola first win over the Reds

Bournemouth claimed a dramatic 3-2 victory over Liverpool in the Premier League at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday evening.

Liverpool started the game on the front foot and created a big chance early on when Mohamed Salah was put through on goal, but he fluffed the opportunity.

Bournemouth took the lead from their first real opening, with Virgil van Dijk failing to deal with a long ball, allowing Alex Scott to slip in Evanilson for the finish.

The Cherries doubled their lead in the 36th minute, as Alex Jimenez ran behind the Reds’ defence to latch James Hills pass into the back of the net.

Bournemouth’s momentum was halted before the break, with Van Dijk halving the deficit for the defending champions, bringing an end to a frenetic first half.

Pushing for the equaliser, Wataru Endo threaded a through pass into Cody Gakpo’s path, but Djordje Petrovic quickly came off his line to avert the danger.

Liverpool continued to dominate possession as the second half wore on and were presented with an opening, which Cody Gakpo dragged wide.

The visitors were eventually rewarded for their effort, as Szoboszlai struck a free-kick home to make it 2-2.

Just when Liverpool thought they had secured a point, Amine Adli stepped up in stoppage time, bundling the ball into the net to give Bournemouth the victory.

The victory marked manager Andoni Iraola’s first-ever victory over Liverpool and ended the Reds’ 13-game unbeaten run across all competitions.
