Chelsea have received encouraging news in their chase for Jeremy Jacquet after Stade Rennais manager Habib Beye conceded anything could happen before the transfer deadline. The west London outfit continues talks with the French top-flight side, who are hesitant to part with the 20-year-old midway through the season.

One proposal being floated involves the France Under-21 star moving to Chelsea this month before heading back to Roazhon Park on loan until the summer. Jacquet is believed to be keen on making the switch to Stamford Bridge should an agreement be reached.

Beye has now admitted: "There are still a few days left in the transfer window; anything can happen. We need things to be as calm as possible."

A price tag of £60million has been spoken about, with Beye's comments arriving just days after he suggested a departure could materialise due to financial considerations.

He said: "I'm amazed by the calm with which he's handling this situation. I felt he was very focused on what he's currently experiencing.

"There's an economic reality, and I won't always have the final say. What I said was that when you're a team like Stade Rennais and you have high ambitions, as a coach, I want to keep my best players and have the strongest team possible. Jeremy is one of those players.

"We've been very, very clear about Jeremy's situation; he's stable, and that's the most important thing for us. There are still a few days left in the transfer window.

"Anything can happen. We need things to be as calm as possible, which would be best for me," reports Football London.

Asked about the possibility of securing Jacquet ahead of his side's victory over Pafos, Liam Rosenior said: "You'll know about me, I don't speak about players at other clubs until something is agreed with any player.

"I think it's so disrespectful. If I was a manager of another team and a manager was speaking about my player, I wouldn't be a happy person. So whether it's true or whether it's not, I'll speak about that at the right time."

However, Rosenior demands any fresh arrivals to deliver a 'clear impact' on the squad. He said: "So we have to be very selective at this stage of the season.

"If we do bring in the right player in a certain position, they have to have a clear impact on the team."
