French media spot something different about Chelsea target Jeremy Jacquet in Rennes defeat

Chelsea are still locked in talks to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes.

A central defender was made a priority by Chelsea after the defeat to Arsenal, and there has been very little progress since then.

One positive is the fact that Rennes are looking at signing Charlie Cresswell, who happens to play in the same position as Jeremy Jacquet.

Tosin Adarabioyo has been ruled out for three weeks, which hasn’t helped Liam Roseniorā€˜s cause, but having Josh Acheampong as cover helps things.

Regardless, an addition like Jacquet would be a boost, but it would come at a huge cost.

Jeremy Jacquet off the pace in Rennes defeat to Lorient

Rennes suffered a 2-0 defeat to Lorient in Ligue 1, with Jeremy Jacquet playing the full 90 minutes.

Jacquet made one interception, one block, three recoveries, three clearances, had 79 touches, a pass percentage of 93, lost both his ground duels but won all four of his aerial duels (FotMob).

French outlet Maxi Foot weren’t so impressed, though, as they gave him a 4/10.

ā€˜Still in the starting line-up despite persistent rumours with Chelsea this winter, has the Stade Rennais central defender been disturbed by this context? At the beginning of the match, the young talent was too passive in front of Makengo on the opening goal of Lorient. Even in the duels, he was not always dominant in front of Dieng. At the end of the game, he was unfortunate by deflecting Avom’s cross for Pagis.’

Jeremy Jacquet has all the makings of a Chelsea player

Despite the negative media review, the stats actually look quite positive for the defender.

He showed his ability to pass at high percentages and with a high volume, as well as being able to find the longer pass when needed.

The fact that Jacquet is only 20 years old, producing these kinds of stats, shows the potential.

After all, Julient Laurens, who watches the defender week in week out, has claimed that Jacquet could be the next William Saliba to come out of France.
