Bournemouth secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over reigning champions Liverpool in the Premier League at Vitality Stadium on Saturday evening.
Mohamed Salah had the first chance of the game in the sixth minute after a quick one-two to set the winger through on goal, but the Egyptian fired his effort wide.
At the other end, James Hill could’ve broken the deadlock, but his volley inside the 18-yard box flew over the bar.
In the 26th minute, Evanilson opened the scoring after Virgil van Dijk failed to clear Marcos Senesi’s long ball and Alex Scott kept it alive to tee up the striker, who finished past Alisson Becker.
Seven minutes later, Alex Jiménez doubled the host’s advantage after he latched onto James Hill’s through ball before slotting past the onrushing Alisson.
At the other end, Florian Wirtz came close to having the deficit, but his low strike from outside the area went just wide of the post.
On the stroke of halftime, van Dijk pulled one back for the Reds after he rose highest to meet Dominic Szoboszlai’s corner, and he headed home beyond Djordje Petrovic.
After the restart, Liverpool bossed possession but couldn’t create any chance of significance.
In the 65th minute, Ryan Gravenberch had his sights on goal from range, but his effort went wide as the visitors searched for an equaliser.
Szoboszlai restored parity in the 80th minute from a free kick after Salah’s backheel paved the way for the Hungarian, and his curling effort nestled into the bottom corner.
Moments later, the Cherries were presented with two chances to retake the lead. First, Ryan Christie’s effort from the edge of the area was tipped over by Alisson.
Evanilson couldn’t convert from close range as he rolled his effort wide.
At the other end, Writz could’ve also snatched the late winner for Liverpool, but his effort was parried away by Petrovic.
Deep into stoppage time, Amine Adli gave the Cherries the lead after Hill’s long throw into the area caused a scramble in the six-yard box, and Adli was there to tap home the winner, ending Liverpool’s 13-game unbeaten run.
