London City Lionesses vs Manchester City: Women’s Super League Preview, Gameweek 13, 2026

One team's loss is another team's gain. That is certainly how Manchester City will be feeling ahead of their clash with the London City Lionesses this Sunday.

After title rivals Chelsea's blunder at home against Arsenal, City have a golden opportunity to move nine points clear at the top of the Women's Super League.

To do just that, they will have to pass the test of a trip to face the London City Lionesses. Winless in their last three and currently sitting in eighth, the visiting side will certainly fancy their chances of picking up a victory at the Copperjax community stadium.

When the pair met back in September, City emerged as dominant winners, claiming a 4-1 victory over their opposition. Jeglertz will be hoping for a similar outcome this time around.

London City Lionesses:

The good news for the hosts is that Freya Godfrey has made her return to training. However, Jocelyn Prêcheur has confirmed that a decision will be made ahead of the encounter as to whether she is sharp enough to play a role.

There remains a lengthy list of players out of action for tomorrow's hosts, including: Daniëlle van de Donk, Isa Kardinaal, Teyah Goldie, Poppy Pattinson, Corinne Henson and Maddi Wilde.

Manchester City:

In his press conference, Jeglertz was optimistic that Sam Coffey would be ready to play a part in the match against the London City Lionesses. The new signing has been given time to adapt to life in Manchester and could make her debut in this one.

City themselves have a number of players out, including: Mary Fowler, Sydney Lohmann, Aoba Fujino, Mayzee Davies and Naomi Layzell

Predicted Lineups

London City Lionesses:

Lete; Fernandez, Sangare, Linari, Corrales; Kumagai, Roddar; Franssi, Geyoro, Asllani; Parris

Manchester City:

Yamashita; Casparij, Rose, Knaak, Greenwood; Clinton, Hasegawa; Kerolin, Miedema, Hemp; Shaw

Key Players

London City Lionesses

Kosovare Asllani:

The Swedish international's experience will be required in abundance by her side if they are to pull off a significant upset on Sunday. The winger is without a goal involvement in the league since November; this would be the game to change that for Asllani.

When you come against dominant teams like this Manchester City side, experience is one of the most valuable attributes. It is fair to say that Asllani has masses of it and could play a key role if London City Lionesses were to take points off the league leaders.

Manchester City:

Bunny Shaw:

Who else but Shaw? City's number nine is enjoying a stellar season in the WSL, averaging a goal a game with a tally of twelve up to this point. A clinical force in front of goal, her opposition will know that they can not afford to offer her many opportunities before one of them gets punished.

A lethal striker like Bunny Shaw is exactly why City sit clear at the top of the Women's Super League. The Jamaican does not look like she plans on slowing down any time soon, unfortunately for Sunday's opponents.
