Joe Gomez was forced off with an injury in Liverpool’s 3-2 loss against Bournemouth.
Arne Slot has provided a Liverpool injury update on Joe Gomez after the defeat by AFC Bournemouth.
The Reds’ lacklustre Premier League form continued as they fell to a 3-2 loss at the Vitality Stadium. Arne Slot’s side battled from two goals behind but their weakness at defending set-pieces were again exposed when Amine Adli bundled home from a long throw. It brought an end to a 13-match unbeaten run and Liverpool have failed to win a league game in their past five matches.
Evanilson opened the scoring for Bournemouth in the 26th minute, with Gomez suffering an issue in the process as he was inadvertently hurt by team-mate Alisson Becker.
Liverpool were missing three defenders against the Cherries, with Ibrahima Konate given compassionate leave following the passing of his father, while Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni won’t play again this season because of respective knee injuries.
Liverpool are in the middle of a busy fixture schedule. They face Qarabag in the Champions League on Wednesday before welcoming Newcastle United to Anfield on Saturday 31 January. And Gomez will now have to be assessed, while goalkeeper Alisson picked up swelling on his knee but was able to continue.
Speaking at his post-match press conference, Slot said: “Joe Gomez had to come off. He wanted to try [to continue], he thought he could but then he couldn’t.
“Joe got a knock from Ali. His knee went into somewhere [in his leg] . I think it was bone on bone. You could see he was not able to continue. Ali had some swelling in his knee. I don't know if Joe is going to train in two or three days, that is difficult to say, but it was clear he couldn't continue today.”
